Programme: "Belt and Road Initiative" Study Programme in Shanghai

Partner Institution: Shanghai International Studies University

Period: December 25, 2023 – January 3, 2024

I recently attended the Shanghai Belt and Road Workshop and had the opportunity to visit Shanghai, a city with a rich history and culture. During the program, I attended several lectures which provided me with a deep understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and its economic and social significance for China and other participating countries.

Through the BRI studies course, I gained a multidimensional understanding of this global initiative, which encompasses geopolitical, economic, cultural, and sustainable development aspects. I learned about the motivations, interests, and impacts of the participating countries, as well as how they interact and face challenges within the BRI framework. Moreover, I became aware of the implications for global trade patterns and supply chains. This knowledge has been invaluable in preparing me for a future career in international relations, business, development, academia, or policy analysis.

In addition to the academic aspect, I also enjoyed visiting many famous sites in Shanghai, such as Yuyuan Garden and the historic buildings along the Shanghai Bund. These experiences deepened my cultural and historical knowledge of the city and expanded my insights.

During the cultural research activities, I visited the Lingang Terminal and the Import and Trade Center, which allowed me to learn about Shanghai's thriving economic and trade development. Throughout the program, I also got to know many of my classmates, broadening my social circle. While collecting information for the final report, I honed my communication skills and improved my teamwork abilities.

All in all, I have benefited immensely from this Belt and Road Study Program, both in terms of knowledge and friendship.
