Programme: A Journey of Folk Culture Exploration in Nanjing

Partner Institution: Nanjing University

Period: December 25 - 31, 2023

Through this event, I had the opportunity to visit Nanjing and Huangshan for the first time and engage in exchanges with volunteers from Nanjing University. This valuable experience allowed me to witness firsthand the rich history of Nanjing and experience the technological advancements in mainland China during our daily activities, giving me a clearer understanding of China and my expectations for future development in related regions.

To delve into the details, Nanjing met my expectations in various aspects of a Chinese city, such as experiencing the climate of northern cities. Although I didn't get to see Nanjing covered in snow as I had hoped, I could already sense the vibrant cultural atmosphere while exploring various landmarks. Compared to my previous exchange group activities, the itinerary for this event was well-planned, providing ample rest time and allowing me to fully immerse myself in exploring each attraction. I was particularly impressed by our visit to Niushoushan at the beginning and Huangshan at the end. As someone with an interest in religion, I didn't expect to directly visit these religious sites. It was awe-inspiring to witness the magnificence of the architecture both inside and outside Niushoushan, showcasing intricate details and conveying the solemnity of Buddhism. Huangshan, on the other hand, posed a significant physical and mental challenge. Although I didn't encounter the strong winds and heavy rain I initially feared, climbing Huangshan proved to be the biggest challenge I've faced in recent years as someone who doesn't engage in regular physical activities. Surprisingly, despite my slower pace, I managed to complete the entire journey, reaching the Bright Summit and even having energy left to descend. This experience made me realize my boundless potential.

Lastly, of course, I made many new friends through this event, and they were all incredibly friendly. I believe we will continue to practice and stay in touch even after the event. After this memorable trip to Nanjing, I am even more inclined to consider opportunities for development in mainland China, and I may seek out opportunities in the future that are tailored to my interests.
