Programme: SH-HK-Macao University Flight Carnival
Partner Institution: Fudan University
Period: December 26 - 29, 2023
As a student from Hong Kong participating in the Shanghai-Hong Kong-Macao Flight Carnival programme, I have been given a valuable opportunity to broaden my understanding of various aspects of China. Firstly, the programme allowed me to delve deeper into the vibrant city of Shanghai, the economic hub of the country. A highlight of the programme was a night boat trip along the Huangpu River, which showcased the harmonious blend of old and new architecture. This symbolizes the coexistence and mutual support between traditional and modern cultures.
Secondly, we had the chance to attend a lecture at Fudan University, where we got a taste of the life of a student at one of China's most esteemed institutions. We also had the chance to dine in the university's canteen, immersing ourselves in the everyday experiences of fellow students.
Thirdly, we discovered how the Chinese government fosters the growth of young talent in the field of technology. The programme included a visit to a physical education center, where we had the opportunity to experience flight simulation and gain insights into the training of future pilots.
Lastly, the programme exposed us to the industrial development in the Shanghai area through company site visits. We witnessed the establishment of large-scale factories, made possible by the financial support from Shanghai and the availability of land in the surrounding regions. Notably, alongside traditional industries, we also explored the advancements in more futuristic sectors, such as the hydrogen power industry.
In addition to enhancing our knowledge of Mainland China, this trip provided us with the chance to meet and connect with students from different universities, fostering new friendships and cultural exchange.
