Programme: Tea Culture Learning Winter Camp

Partner Institution: South China Agricultural University

Period: December 18 - 20, 2023

South China Agricultural University is well-known for its expertise in agriculture, including tea cultivation and research. I believe this event aims to promote and preserve China's tea culture while exploring new opportunities and advancements in the tea industry.

One impressive aspect of this project is its focus on preserving traditional tea-making techniques and knowledge while integrating these with contemporary culture to produce innovative products like "milk tea". China has a wide variety of teas, each with unique production methods and characteristics, such as Longjing tea from Hangzhou, Pu-erh tea from Yunnan, or Tie Guan Yin tea from Fujian. It's crucial to ensure the transmission of these methods to future generations to maintain the authenticity and quality of Chinese tea.

Furthermore, the project may also significantly focus on exploring innovative approaches to tea production, marketing, and sustainable development. With the rise of specialty teas, organic and sustainable farming practices, and global interest in Chinese tea, maintaining a leading position in the industry is crucial. This involves adopting modern technologies like precision agriculture to enhance tea cultivation and production efficiency.

From a personal observation standpoint, I believe a comprehensive tea culture learning project should cover the technical aspects of tea production and emphasize the historical, cultural, and social significance of tea in Chinese society. Understanding the broader background and traditions of tea can deepen the appreciation for this ancient art form.

Through participation in this event, I believe it's important to continue promoting and preserving China's tea culture while allowing it to progress with the times. Tea is more than a beverage; it represents a unique aspect of China's heritage and identity.
