About the Programme
"Starting Architecture School: Form as Experience" is an initiative under "Sensing Architecture," a three-year project dedicated to expanding our network and reimagining architectural education. Focusing on sound and space as transformative tools, this program aims to enhance the student experience by fostering a deeper connection between perception and design. Through visits to architectural schools, the initiative explores the potentials and challenges of early architectural education while reflecting on how sensory engagement—particularly sound—shapes our understanding of space and form.
Working with the rich material and cultural legacy of Hunan Huayao villages, students will create sound instruments by using their architectural knowledge along with local understanding of workmanship. Inspired by the distinctive festival culture of the Yao people, participants will create an original musical work with their instruments and then deliver a pop-up performance in line with the site setting in the form of a banquet.
